What is the “$5,000 rule”?
Multiply the system’s age by the repair quote. Under $5,000, repair. Over, start pricing replacement. It’s a rule of thumb the whole industry uses; the calculator above applies it and adds efficiency and safety.
Does a cracked heat exchanger always mean replacement?
For a furnace over 15 years old, yes. The part alone costs most of a new furnace, and it’s a carbon monoxide safety issue. We show you the crack with a camera before we say so.
Will you push replacement?
No. Our technician isn’t paid on commission. Several Google reviews are from homeowners another company told to replace, and we fixed the unit instead.
What if I can’t afford to replace right now?
