Why Every Denver Home Should Have a Whole-Home Humidifier

Denver winter air indoors often drops below 15% humidity. Here's what that does to your family, your floors, and your furnace, and what a whole-home humidifier actually costs.

Nosebleeds in January. Static shocks off every doorknob. Hardwood floors that creak and gap. A cough that won’t leave. In Denver, that’s not winter. That’s dry air, and it’s fixable.

How dry is it, really?

Outdoor air at 20°F holds very little moisture. Heat it to 70°F indoors and the relative humidity falls to 10 to 15%. The Sahara averages about 25%. That’s the air your family breathes for four months.

Healthy indoor humidity is 35 to 45%. Below 30%, skin cracks, sinuses dry out, viruses survive longer in the air, and wood shrinks.

Why a portable unit doesn’t cut it

A tabletop humidifier handles one bedroom, needs filling every day, and grows things in the tank. A whole-home humidifier mounts on the furnace, draws from a water line, and treats every room through the ducts. You set a number on a small dial and forget it.

What to expect on price

A whole-home bypass or fan-powered humidifier is one of the lower-cost upgrades we install, and it costs less still when it goes in alongside a new furnace. You get a written price before any work. It uses a water panel that we swap once a year during the fall tune-up.

What changes

  • Fewer nosebleeds and sore throats, especially for kids
  • Floors and furniture stop shrinking and creaking
  • 68°F feels like 70°F, because humid air holds heat on your skin. Most people turn the thermostat down a degree or two and save the gas.
  • Less static, fewer dead houseplants

What to watch for

Too much humidity is its own problem: condensation on windows means turn the dial down. We set it correctly on install and show you the one adjustment to make when it gets very cold outside.

If your house is dry every winter, this is the single highest-comfort-per-dollar upgrade we install. Ask about it at your next tune-up.
